The scientific team of SRC SC&NC has designed and manufactured a computational module (CM) “Seginus” which contains 8 Xilinx Virtex UltraScale+ XCVU9P FPGAs. The performance of the module is 18.4 TFlops (32-digit floating-point operations).

At present, the CM “Seginus” has the highest logical density, and its performance three times higher than the performance of the CM “Nekkar” and RCS “Benetnash”, which was produced in 2009 and contains 5 computer racks.

The CM “Seginus” is a basic component of a reconfigurable computational block (RCB) “Seginus”, designed for computationally expensive tasks of digital signal processing and linear algebra.

Now we use the CM “Seginus” to test various technical solutions for RCB design such as a new heatsink for FPGA cooling. This heatsink dissipates up to 200 Watt from each FPGA of the CM “Seginus”.

It’s always heartening to see hard-earned results. This time spirit of conquest prevailed at master’s thesis defense!

10 our heroes – graduating students had brilliantly defended the results of their research works on the 21st of June, 2019.

It is worth pointing out a very high level of the presented works. The majority of dissertations can become a base for future research for Candidate or Doctoral degrees.

The qualifying commission found some difficulties in evaluation of the presented research works. The result is the following: two “good” and all the rest – “excellent”.

With feelings of deep joy and great pride, we would like to tell, that four graduates have become employees of SRC SC & NC!

Congratulations!

We wish you success and courage to fight through every hardship!

On 27 October, 2017, we gave a special tour of SRC SC & NC for students. This traditional event was a part of the Academic Mobility Week. We were pleased to note the following. In addition to the first-year master students from the Department of Intelligent and Multiprocessor Systems, the company was visited by the first-year bachelor students from the Academy for Engineering and Technology of SFedU and students from the Polytechnic Institute of DSTU in Taganrog. Our guests attended the head office and production facility with the great interest. Students were attracted by our latest developments, including the high-performance computational module with a liquid cooling. It should be noted that the aforementioned device has no counterparts in Europe. In addition, young visitors were impressed by the operation of the printed circuit board (PCB) mounting sector located in the production building of SRC SC & NC. Advanced manufacturing technologies, state-of-the-art equipment, and wide experience of the staff provide the high quality of assembling. Our specialists use the surface-mount technology (SMT) for the automatic mounting of different components (from 0201 to ball grid arrays (BGAs) with 1700 pins) on multilayer PCBs. We hope that our young visitors will become the employees of SRC SC & NC in the near future!

The scientific team of SRC SC & NC has designed and produced an original motherboard based on Intel Skylake ® (Core I5-6300U) processor for a computational block with liquid cooling system. The computational block has no analogs among European products. The computational block has a complex multicomponent design. The motherboard is immersed into the case of the computational module filled with a cooling agent. The board consists of 18 layers. Such design proves complexity of its production. The minimum size of the motherboard is 490х109.7 mm.

March 28th – April 1st (2016)

On the X international scientific conference “Parallel Computational Technologies (PaCT’16)” Alexey I. Dordopulo, the head of the department of mathematical and algorithmic software, presented results, that were achieved by the scientific team of Scientific Research Centre of Supercomputers and Neurocomputers. The results concern design of a reconfigurable computer system with liquid cooling based on Virtex UltraScale FPGAs and FPGAs of the next families.

The principal component of modular implementation of open loop immersion liquid cooling system of electronic components of computer systems is a 3U reconfigurable computational module of a new generation. The computational module consists of a computational section, a heat exchange section, a case, a pump, a heat-exchanger and a fitting. In the case, which is the base of the computational section, a hermetic container filled with dielectric cooling liquid is placed. The container contains electronic devices with components, that generate heat during functioning. So, the printed circuit boards of the computational modules (12-16 boards) with 8 Kintex UltraScale XCKU095 FPGAs each, control boards, RAM, power supply blocks, storage devices, daughter boards and other components of computational sections are cooled by the heat-transfer agent. The computational section is covered by a top cover.

As the heat-transfer agent a special oil with reduced viscosity MD-4.5 is used. This oil has rather high heat capacity of about 1.666 kJ/(kg·K) and the low coefficient of volume extension, the  electric strength of 280 MV/m and the specific resistance of 2.2×1012 Om.

Besides the unique reconfigurable computer system with liquid cooling, several software solutions, such as methods of performance reduction, were presented. The methods of performance reduction are the basis of the developed technology of resource-independent programming of hybrid computer systems that contain reconfigurable and microprocessor computational nodes.

The materials of the reports attracted great interest. As a result, a paper was published in the on-line magazine SERVERNEWS, which is devoted to innovations of supercomputer industry.
